About the Health Services Research (HSR) Matrix
Health services research (HSR) is the multidisciplinary field of scientific investigation that studies how social factors, organizational structures and processes, health technologies, and personal behaviors affect access to health care, the quality and cost of health care, and ultimately health and well-being. Its research domains are individuals, families, organizations, institutions, communities, and populations.
In the last several years, new programs have been developed in health care quality and HSR. The institution is in the process of establishing numerous centers and programs that will integrate health services, outcomes and QI research, develop innovations in care delivery and conduct bench to bedside and bedside to community translational research in multiple settings.
Purpose of the Health Services Research Matrix
The purpose of the HSR Matrix at CCHMC is to improve child health and transform care by developing new knowledge about how to re-design the health care system and translate innovation and evidence into practice and policy.
The faculty of participating CCHMC divisions and centers are working together to coordinate their activities. The goals of this collaboration are to:
- Develop a system at CCHMC to support health services research
- Create greater collaboration and synergy across Divisions, Centers and Programs
- Apply research methods to accelerate translation of new evidence from bench to bedside to community
- Effectively manage expansion of effort in HSR by anticipating and creating research infrastructure necessary to support it
- Increase external funding for research
CCHMC is in a unique position to make an important contribution to the field of health services research because of our connection to an innovative care delivery system, the investments in translational research, and the growing emphasis on translating evidence into practice and policy.
Programs supported by the HSR Matrix include:
